However, significant manufacturing challenges remain, ensuring integrated photonic devices can be produced at affordable prices and in high volumes. Furthermore, the manufacturing supply chain needs to collaborate more effectively, from design and foundry, through to packaging and test. This symposium brings together key stakeholders to review the current and future status of the manufacturing supply chain. The symposium will include detailed reviews, given by industry experts, of critical technology challenges, new developments and future opportunities for high-volume manufacturing of integrated photonic devices. The symposium is especially suited to those interested in providing Photonic Integrated Circuit manufacturing services and to the users of these services.

WHY: A hackathon for lab automation and PIC design using the Python programming language will be organized during the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC – 2019). Nazca-Design presented by Bright Photonics is once again a part of Hackathon. This year the Nazca team will show new GDS layout features focused on path tracing to identify circuit integrity, both for optical and electrical interconnects, as well as enhanced fab/pdk building capabilities.

WHY: Hybrid integrated photonics attracts significant attention, as it enables complete and cost-efficient optical chip solutions for silicon, silicon nitride, and polymer photonics in combination with III-V active optoelectronic devices. We discuss design challenges of hybrid PICs and present a workflow addressing them, which relies on standard simulation compact models and a layout-aware design approach. We demonstrate flexible optoelectronic circuit simulation, optimization and analysis, as well as performance verification on system-level.

WHY: VPIphotonics releases new versions of PDK toolkits for the next MPW runs offered by Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, Heinrich Hertz Institute and by SMART Photonics foundries of InP integrated photonics. The VPItoolkit PDK HHI adds support of layout export to the Nazca Design 0.5.3 and upgrades support of PhoeniX OptoDesigner (product of Synopsys) to its latest version 2019.03. The VPItoolkit PDK SMART upgrades layout export to support of the latest versions of Nazca Design 0.5.3, PhoeniX OptoDesigner 2019.03 and Luceda IPKISS 3.2. Both toolkits provide full support of the layout-aware schematic-driven design approach allowing an easy circuit layout optimization with respect to the required optical chip functionality.

 


Foundry Live Demo PIC Design Suite PH18: TowerJazz

WHY: Join Synopsys Photonic Solutions team for a live demo in which TowerJazz and Synopsys will demonstrate QPSK transmitter and receiver PIC design using the Synopsys Photonic Solutions. Based on the TowerJazz silicon photonics PH18 technology, the demo will focus on Synopsys complete suite of PIC design and manufacturing solutions featuring circuit, layout generation and verification, and LVS.
